Do you guys rig up to trap out when your going out. I found in the few times I got out that I don't really use them. I've not been in strong wind yet. . . so is this the reason or will I be able to just use the wings and dump the wind. . .

Trapping from the wings is pretty awesome as it gets you way up over the water. It does require a lot of wind to need to trap though. I can't decide if I like the trap wires outside the wing or inside.

hey Josh... is that your H18 that suddenly reappeared on the beach ?

new rigging, honked down REALLY tight... looks like mid80s boat..? (but w/o wings)....

anyway, my trap lines are inside the wing and i just leave 'em there all the time..... don't really need to trap w/wings... but when it's blowing I sit mid-tramp and let the kids trap off the wing.

it has to REALLY be blowing dogs off chains to NEED to trap 2 adults off the wings... but when it is, the old WARHORSE starts closing and passing (newer or fancier) 18 footers w/o wings... (until downwind when they pop spins..)

otherwise, sometimes I take them off just cause I feel more connected to the boat without the wings, and it's fun to trap traditional style..!

WARHORSE is my secret admirer name for my beloved H18XSX

Robpatt, no that's not my 18. I've resurected an old 18 that sat for nearly 7 years in some guys back yard. I'm in punta gorda FL, so I have to trailer sail as I haven't found anywhere (yet) to leave the boat up in the harbor. I'm just about ready to put some decals on her after finishing most of the hull repairs. I have to make some more repairs on the topsides of the hulls, so until then I'll be keeping the wings on till they are done. I have the feeling i'll be taking them off every now and again. Being everyone is old in these parts, I rightfully named her whip'r snap'r.
