Josh, about yoru blocks... I just rigged a 8:1 on my H18.

I got an old triple upper block from a H14 or H16, and that was it.

On the boom, from back to front I now have:
original single block on rearmost hanger
the triple block on the middle hanger
the mainsheet tied off (from the lower block) at the front hanger

The lower block system is the same, HOWEVER...
above the cam cleat I used one of the existing holes and put a clevis pin through.
On the clevis pin I took the single block that was at the front of the boom.

So now the line goes from your hand, to the lower cam cleat,
up to the rear block on the boom
down to the lower blocks
back and forthe up and down a few times
(be creative to run the lines to avoid any friction)
then from the top block down to the NEW single block you installed on the clevis pin...
and finally tie it off up at the lone front hanger on the boom.

Hope that all makes sense. Now it's so much easier to sheet in and pump the main... and more fun for the kids to drive the 18 too.

I'm headed out tomorrow, the high will be 72F (Mississippi gulf coast) so will try and take a pic for you.

regards,
Rob

Thanks all. .. . I think from looking at some pics Hobie puts their decals in line with the shrouds because it's also in line with the dagger boards. I could be wrong, but this may also be the reason. Either way still diggin mine. . .

From your local Hobie Dealer, they were about $35 each last time I purchased them.

Where were you able to acquire the decals? I just bought a Hobie 18 up here in Jacksonville and I'd like to add some decals.

First off, the boat looks great, Josh. Not to threadjack you here but I had a question and figured this thread was a good place for the discussion.

I am considering the same decals for my H18 but I am torn on where to place them. I know the location you placed yours at is right where the new factory replacement hulls had theirs placed (and it looks great) but I was looking at the assembly manual I have for the 18 and the cover has the following drawing:

Now, I know this is just a sketch but I really like the placement of the decal on the hull. I'm planning on doing similar lines forward and aft of the decal but I just can't tell whether it would look best if the decal was in the location on the sketch or where it should be from the factory..?

I'm leaning towards factory because in the end at least it would look more "correct" and I'm not sure how the hull in the sketch would look in real life (not sure if the decal is to scale, location, etc). Sorry for such a dumb sounding question, I just want to try to get this right the first time.

EDIT: Here's a quick photoshop with the decal moved back to the correct location. Doesn't look too bad.

I personally would just place them where you think they look the best. At the end of the day you are the one that needs to be happy. I think they look good at either spot. Just go with what "you" want to look at.

And no thread jacking here, so long as you post a pic of when you are done. lol

Just looking at the two sketches I like the one centered on the shroud better.

Good luck and post a pic of the finished product.

I took a couple pics of my boat on the water. These should give you a good idea of how the decals look centered on the shrouds. And I'm happy I finally got to take some pics of the sails all up. The wind had just about died out, but I got the best part of the day!

Wow, the boat looks great! Thanks for the photos. I noticed you also added the red "Hobie Cat" decal near the transom, similar to the new 18 hulls - where did you manage to find those? That looks so good that it's got me debating whether I should drop the forward and aft pin stripes idea...

Funny I saw the drawing you posted and thought that I may add the pin stripes to mine. . .too funny how I didn't like them before, now they look pretty cool. I have a good friend that is in the wrap business. He takes care of anything I need as far as decals. . . There is so much you can do, but at the end of the day, getting out on the water is what it's all about!

True, I'm hoping to get out on the water for the first time this season next weekend. I'm hoping to get it done Saturday and I might still do the stripes. I'll post photos regardless

Got the decals and stripes laid down last weekend (big thanks to Mike!) I think they turned out pretty good. Decals were from Hobie, applied dry, and $3 pin stripes from Autozone.

Hit the Texas City Dike yesterday for the first sail of the season. Wind was howling but it turned out to be a great day.

Now that's a sweet looking boat! Nice job on all the decals. I see you went for the traditional spot. It looks like you painted your cross bars? ? or are they just in that good of shape?

On the one pic I saw how you proped you wings up, you mind sharing how you have done this. It looks like a nice clean setup.
