I have taken out the 12 rivets and removed the mast tang, what is the best way to get the old comp tip out to prep for new replacement? Brute force or is there a better way?

I've been successful using heat and a rubber mallet. Fixing both ends to something solid so I could apply slight pulling tension, then tap on the mast with the mallet, re-tension, apply heat again, repeat until it's out a couple inches, then you should be able to wiggle it out by hand.

On my boat the fiberglass tip is cracked is that the piece that ya'll are calling the mast tip?

The upper portion (above the shroud tang) is what is called a CompTip (Composite Tip). The CompTip also has a snap-on plastic luff track.

I figure that using the advice above, I will drill through the broken piece and attach a rope through the holes and tie off to a tow hitch on my 4 wheeler, the attach the bottom of the mast to another tow hitch on my truck, with the mast supported on saw horses, via the halyard cleat. That way I should be able to put some tension on the mast end to end then heat and tap with rubber mallet.

Hopefully this will allow the tip and mast to separate smoothly - someone scream if I am going about this the wrong way :)

Don't put any stress on the halyard cleats. You'll rip them off and leave the rivets behind.

Put a couple of hitches around the mast at the sail track cutout.

I've done that a hundred times, works well. I tension it between my truck and a fence post, tension the whole thing and add a little heat. 140 degrees will weaken most epoxy bonds. Hitch it like Mr. Bounds said. A wiggle under tension will usually break the bond.

When I did it ... several times but lets not dwell, I needed to use two propane torches. One on each side. Twenty feet of aluminum makes a dandy heat sink and I thought you needed 300 degrees. Most guys seem to be saying "some" tension. We used as much as a reasonable guy could pull using a 6:1 Hobie 17 mainsheet system. As soon as it starts to move wiggle and pull and it'll come out. If the rivets aren't drilled neatly they leave little, really little, hooks in the comptip. Four of those and some epoxy and you may wating a while. Have fun.
