Hi all, I'm in the market for an AI. And the colour I wanted (red) isn't available for about ten weeks. So I am wondering if anyone can point me to some pics of the new dune AI, (there are none unpacked at dealer) and I'd really like to see some pics before buying one.
If not I will buy the yellow. Any advice?

It's been informative and entertaining reading this forum the last few days.

Thanks, Anton. West Australia.

Watch the front page image rotation of our site. There is a Tandem Island in Dune featured in one of the shots.

Also a few of the same boat in the TI photo gallery: http://www.hobiecat.com/kayaks/mirage/tandem-island/photos/

Advice? Yes, Anton.

The DUNE will enhance your sense of individuality, reputation and AI resale value.

The YELLOW will get you rescued.

The RED will get you laid.

Assuming, of course, you bat for the pink team.

BTW, here's a picture of Pirate's new Dune baby:

Cute huh?

Got my red AI in 2010, expecting a baby in Spring 2011.

It must be true!

Just remember, if you're not ready for all the action and responsibility that the red AI will bring to your life, buy another colour.

A friend of mine who has both the yellow and red TI says, on hot days, the red TI hull gets hotter than the yellow one.

Hammer, that's one of my reasons for choosing the colour Dune. It should reflect the sun better than both red and yellow, and so keep cool and hopefully more UV & fade resistant . But I do love the colour, and the blue, white and grey sail is a little different and a nice combination....Pirate

Haha, you guys seriously cracked me the fk up! :D
Hmm rescued, laid, or individuality.
Can I get a red, yellow n white striped?
Now that would seriously fk the resale.

Well atleast I got a couple pics out of that. The only dealer in WA isn't in a position where I can see any 2011 AI's let alone demo one.
So I've been searching the net trying to virtually get a handle on these things and figure what to buy, either AI or Ti, colours, transportation etc.
This place is great. Thanks.
Oh and Pirate I googled pirate pillows like you suggested in a thread. All I could find was "how to make a scented pirate themed pillow" are they comfy?;)

Ants, the Pirate Pillows are made of refrigeration lagging and used to allow me to carry my AI right way up avoiding possible damage to my car from cross bars. Here is an illustration as well as a photo to better explain them. They are not scented or used to bed down on though could be used in an emergency...LOL...Pirate

I got a yellow Ti. My wife said "oh no... yum yum yellow!!"

She says that sharks like yellow so hence the phrase.

We live in the UK by the way. Any shark round here is probably more interested in nicking your dry suit.

Thanks for the picture Pirate.
Do you have other shots showing it in position? If not, no worries. I know posting pics can be a pain.

Does it just fit over the roofrack bar?
What size is this lagging?

The best I seem to be able to get is a wall of 38mm (thickness) With varying size internal diameters, upto 165mm.

Do you think this is enough?

P.s. I bought my AI a couple of days ago and the maiden voyage was...JOY! :D Man those peddles really fly!
Oh and Ive joined the yellow brigade :) I wasnt able to get a red one and I had never seen a Dune in real life so I went with yellow. And Im happy with it. I cant wait to get out tomorrow. The river is only a couple kays away so i plan on throwing it on the roof, using the big bubble wrap that came with the yak to get it down the river.

Hi Ants,
Congratulations on your new AI. They are a wonderful robust, versatile and fun craft.
I will go measure the lagging but get it as thick as is available as you pull the hull into it with the straps and thick is better. 38mm would be ok I am sure. I have the Thule aerodynamic type bars and my 'Pillows' fit over and are just a little bit larger than the bars themselves. I have posted a pic of them under my new dune model, but on reflection would have been just as happy to keep the red one which looked great.
The Hobie straps are great if you haven't already got a set and I use a 'rack 'n roll' bar to get the hull on and off my car.....Pirate

Safe Sailing Ants!

Pirate Mate, do you get the impression on sunny days that the dune may be "too bright"? Any distracting glare?

And let us know what the fish think, will ya?

No NOHUHU it is a mottled granite mixture and has not dazzled me, and I am thinking it would be better for fishing blending into the water and river surrounds. I will let you know as I am going fishing this afternoon with a skilled up yak fisherman who is going to show me the ropes. Looking forward to that....Pirate :P
