It's not that they're lower in the sail, they're reversed. They're closest to the 85 Nationals Yellow, but with blue on the bottom instead of yellow.

That might be the difference between the 85 NY and the "Sunburst" pattern. I'll have to dig into my reference stuff to find out for sure.

I couldn't find any results with sail numbers from the late '80s that would kick my brain over to remember who had that boat, but I probably did at one time. I've been racing out of the Detroit area since 1985. I just recently cleaned out my basement, sorted and washed my regatta t-shirts - and found that I have nearly 300 items of regatta apparel. Without duplicates.

MBounds would know, he's the resident Hobie god. He knows EVERYTHING about these boats. The really different numbers between hulls DOES sound a bit strange though.

Based on your sail number and color pattern, I would say yours is very similar to mine which is a 1987 Blue Prism (88863). Maybe yours was a "Yellow" Prism.

Thanks Tim! Your hulls look really bright, did you re-gelcoat them?

I looked through that article showing all the sail/hull colors over the years, and my sails aren't shown. You're right "yellow prism" would be dead on. Maybe that pattern was a limited run. I've only seen one other H16 with the same colors as mine, and ironically, that boat was owned by a guy that lives near me, and the sail numbers were only 2 ahead of mine. In that pic of me and my boat, at this very moment, there are 10 ft high ice ridges extending out half a mile into Lake Michigan at that spot. What a difference a few months makes!

AlanRV8,

I bought the boat several years ago from Pat Martin who runs Starboard Marine in Panama City Beach, FL. They specialize in fiberglass repairs and rebuilding catamarans.

He painted the 1982 white hulls with: "Wind Blue" Ful-Thane Urethane from NCS. The urethane finish has held up very well and keeps it's smooth shiny finish.

I also once a year use acetone to restore the white color of my lexan rudders.
