Got the 14T it's an 85 boat and looks likes its in better than good condition. The guy was right it's got a banana mast, I've got it tied between two fence posts and have pulled the bend out of it, now the heating and cooling of the sun will hopefully get the majority of the bend out, then I plan on sandwiching it between a couple two by sixes and slam it straight using through bolts and some big azz washers.
Was thinking about lining the gap between the boards with aluminum foil and using the hot coals from the fire place to add a little extra heat...anyone heard of this technique?

If you heat the aluminum any significant amount, you'll remove the temper and about 40% of the strength. Don't do it.

Mbounds - Thanks for reply, I'm just kicking around ideas right now. I'll bring the banana mast off the fence jig in a couple weeks to see if the bend has lessened and if so I'll just continue with that method.

Because of the shape of the masts cross section it is extremely difficult to construct a static jig that could be used to push or pull the mast through to straighten it without crushing a sidewall or rolling the sail track into itself. I'm working on it, but it is becoming another rubic's cube!

I'll get it, it will just take some doing to get it right again.

Thanks again

Selfdad,
How did the fire technique work???

I have a black 14 mast with comp tip for sale $150 or trade for an 18sx mast or a non comp tip 18 mast.

What part of the country are you in?

I have had the mast on sawhorses with a washtub full of rocks pulling the bend out of it all winter, I keep moving the horses closer together to center on the bend but I'm having serious doubts about this approach.

I have figured out a way to make a jig and with the use of a cable com-a-long I think I'll be able to pull the bend out in a matter of minutes, problem is I'm in Colorado and its too dang cold to mess with it now......c'mon spring time!!
