Ti speed question

Can somebody let me know at what sort of speed in mph will the Ti "tip over" (I know I can release power etc. but just curious)?

I know there are probably a lot of variables...

I am going solo in the rear, full sail and so far have reached 7.9mph fourth time out... with all well but the water looking colder by each increase of 1mph.

Has anybody 'tipped over' a TI?

The only reports of capsize on this forum I remember, have been due to the aka release problem.
In our TI I have never felt that it was close to a capsize, even in 30knots of wind. I haven't really solo'd it yet though, as there is always a keen passenger!

So far we've gotten our new TI up to 11 mph for a run of about five miles. That was fun!

We've started leaving the tramps rolled up on days when it looks like we'll be reefing the sail. I would say that for us, that's on days with sustained wind of say, 16 kts or more. We've watched the up wind tramp catch air under it, while the down wind tramp gets suddenly buried under water. We like it better without tramps when we are burying amas. Sunday we were out in gusts to 27 kts and it was just not that much fun after a couple hours.

Simply adjust (reef) the sail depending on the wind strength.

I was out yesterday, and the winds kept changing direction and strength from 25+kts wind to 5kts and back. So I was constantly furling/reefing the sail in and out throughout the day to match available winds.

Here’s a tip…you know you have too much sail out, when the leeward ama (downwind) constantly submerges. Just furl some sail in and you’ll find out you’ll probably go just as fast (or even faster) as their won’t be as much drag from the ama.

Ive come close a few times in some strong gusts in already strong winds and swell. I usually only take those sort of risks with a mate up the front to jump out on the tramps, but we nearly got done a few weeks ago when he wasnt that quick and the boat went way up in the air and if I hadnt quickly released the sail and he jumped right out over the top of the AKA, Im sure we would have gone over.

just curious if you tried hiking out on the upwind tramp to balance the craft a bit - your winds seemed rather constant where this might work as opposed to gusty changing winds

I've had my TI log 11.2MPH on the GPS sailing solo on a broad reach from the rear cockpit, sail not reefed-in. I am 185#, had both tramps rolled up and grabbed some air a few times but was more concerned about the mast breaking than going over. Another time I was sailing in 30 knot gusts, sail reefed in 1 foot with my 140# tramp monkey (AL) holding on for dear life. We could have gone fast but the rudder design just cavitates and looses steering in big wind. I felt like we could have gone over several times but this time I was really concerned about breaking the mast or other gear.
