If you search sail loft, the word sail gets ignored and I understand that. The query would be too large. Wouldn't it be nice if there was a forum topic just for Sails, i.e. repairing sails or where to find sail lofts that are Hobie friendly, prices, reviews, etc.? Great answers to questions gets buried and it's a shame for them to get lost.

I know of a few people that are capable sail repairers but they are not easy for out of the loop people to find. I once found a sail loft that told me my sail was worthless. You mean you won't make an attempt at my vintage '80 Carumba sail? Are you too good for me? I'm paying you! Trust me, in regards to sail health, I know what I'm looking at. The nature of Hobie sails is to be always wet/dry/wet/dry and it's hard on them. I also had a just returned jib have a freshly sewn panel blow out. His work. The old stitches held. Took it to a friend, he smiled at it, fixed it, and it's still holding years later.

You could also ask questions just for sails. Why does my sail do this.......? Such as, "why does the leech of my jib flutter?" Or diy sail repair, "what size needle works best?"

I think it would make it easier for visitors(I have been for the last five years) to search sail problems. If there was such a thing, I will volunteer to research past topics and post them there until posters get used to asking questions there. It would take some time but I am willing to help my Hobie family.

Have a Hobie Day!

Just bought my second Hobie ever, its an 88 model with Double Prism Sails.
Here in Dallas Tx there is a great Hobie Dealer Mariner Sails (mariner-sails.com).
They have an amazing sail loft, and I am having a new luff rope installed, and a clear panel installed on my main sail. Great inventory of Hobie products, and the ship anywhere I do believe.
You wont go wrong with these guys.

Dennis

Thanks for the head's up. I'll keep them in mind. I was just about to remove this post. After thinking about it, it would take a reformat of the page and I wouldn't ask of that. I'm just passionate of Hobie sails and I was suggesting that it would make sail stuff easier to "google".

Congrats on the new toy. I'm trying to remember; the double prism is the all white sails with the color prism flipflopped on the seventh and eighth panels. They're great!

I've started to sew my sails. I have a pretty good tutor so I should be alright. To be honest, I don't know any different if I'm doing a good job or not! Good enough for who it's for.

I have four sails, Carumba, White Knight, Gonzo, and Cat Fever. I found the first two from a guy that lost his boat in a hurricane. It got wrapped high in a pine tree. He sold me the sails and the hulls for 25 bucks each. They're all in pretty good shape. I'll retire 'em when they look like my grandma's quilt!

Maybe one day I'll know what a new rig sails like! It should be like taking the cinderblocks off my feet during a footrace.
