Instructing

I hope I don't get boo-ed out of the forum for asking this, but what would be required to offer a "charter service" on a 16? I have a great body of water on which to sail, complete with islands and an absolutely huge supply of tourists, many of which would love to spend a half day learning how to sail or just ride along with a break for lunch out on one of the islands we have nearby. I know this runs counter to the whole Hobie culture of "just go out and have a blast!", and that the mere mention of doing this for profit is taboo, but I think it would be fun and help with expenses. Don't hate me bro.

Probably some licensing from the state to do so.
I'd incorporate so you have some personal protection from the impending lawsuit.
Insurance would be a must.


I'd also invest in a good shovel, and a couple of bags of quicklime should a tourist get hurt out on one of those islands.

Not at all! Resorts, Sailing Schools and Rental outfits are all doing it... and It's good for Hobie. Allows more people to get on the water. We get lots of people buying boats after visiting resorts and being introduced to sailing Hobie's.

LOL! A shovel sure is a lot cheaper than insurance!
I was thinking I might need a captains license or something. I'll have to research it.

Won't need a Cptns lic unless it's got a motor or there are more than 6 passengers. Insurance is the biggie, but not insurmountable.

The local body of water will have something to say about it. State Park, county, city, etc, etc.

I could never figure out how to make it financially work. If you're doing it to hook up with hotties, that's the right way to think. To make a living, not so much.
