It is time to start thinking about the upcoming Hobie 16 & 20 North Americans in Ft. Walton Beach and the cost of fuel. A number of people who were originally considering driving are having second thoughts about it so everyone is concerned about getting their boats to the event.

We are working on the idea of putting together a 53’ trailer truck to haul all of our boats to Ft. Walton and back. We can put 9 boat that are together and another 6 boats taken apart in the trailer. Our initial estimate is that it is going to cost in the neighborhood of $8,000 for the truck roundtrip. If we fill the truck it will only be around $550 - $600 per boat. We are looking at having the truck do an initial load in Northern California, then make a stop in Southern California and then on to Florida. We would do the same on the return trip dropping boats in So Cal and finishing up in Nor Cal.

It is 4,000 – 5,000 miles roundtrip from CA to Ft. Walton Beach depending on exactly where you start. It is going to take a small vehicle $1,300-$1,800 and a motorhome or truck $2,100- $2,800 in fuel cost.

Please let me know if you are interested or not in participating in the trailer.

Please pass this on to anyone you know who might be interested.

I'm in trucking and I got to tell ya $8000 isn't a bad rate.

I have never been a part of the Hobie Nationals. What is the time frame. Is it over a weekend, a whole week? Just thinking maybe i could put something together for anyone coming out of the north east.

The event itself is Monday November 7 - Friday the 11th. Most sailors would probably want to try and get there by Saturday the 5th to get there boat set up and sail for a day or 2 before the event. Also, probably pack up the boats the day after the event, the 12th to head home.
