Curious to know how many of us there are in the State? I know 3 or 4 for sure in my area. I would love to get some numbers to see if it would be practical to arrange some get togethers. Perhaps we can get a maillist together and see what can be done?

If interested let me know where you are and what you sail and perhaps an email address

There once was a very strong fleet (Hobie Fleet 97) in the Raleigh-Durham area. I have about 120 names in the Hobie Class Database for NC, but most of them do not have valid email addresses - only snail mail.

You can try contacting Garland Ayscue in Henderson - g-ayscue(at)nc.rr(dot)com. He may be able to put you on to some people sailing at Jordan or Kerr Lakes.

I would really like that but I'm really too far for the fleets around me. Fleet 100, fleet 32, and Raleigh is, unfortunately, gas and time expensive to attend regular meetings. But if you need contact info I'll send it.

There once was a fleet in Manteo - can't think of the number right now.

I raced in the "Moon over Manteo" regatta circa 1980.

Ha! Matt, I could probably drop some old names to you, such as the old owners of the old Bayside Watersports(Spruill) and KH Kites/Sports(Buxton). Kitty Hawk Water Sports is still a great Hobie dealer. Most of the guys got out of it and boats got left in the yard. When I started into it, I'd hunt them down for help. They'd get all nostalgic and help me out but only a few has kept their boats up or refurbished them. One of the old timers still sails Hobies and sailed a H14 during last year's Water Tribe around Cedar Island.

I tried to help get organized but no one really took an interest. Most people around here are working hard during the summer and are too busy/or rather surf. I think if you found a way to get the kids sailing the parents would remember how fun it is. Fleet 100 does a race at the campground in Rodanthe, but that's about everything as organization is concerned or that I know of around here. It's unfortunate because there is still great beach/sound cat sailing here.

My friend and I both have Hobies and sail around the Raleigh/Durham area, but he doesn't have an account on here. Once summer starts up you'll probably find me on Wheeler/Jordan just about every weekend! Let me know if you can get something organized, I'd love to go out with some other Hobie sailors. There's usually a couple out on Jordan any given weekend.

One more in Greenville, NC
NC Native-I used to surf Rodanthe/Waves/Salvo/Hatteras many years ago. Got old and have not got around to buying a long board yet. Still have two thruster guns (5'10 and 6') that remind that I'm not young anymore! Darn it hurts the next day.

Dustin-NC Native, I'm kinda in between both of you. Two hours away to Raleigh and two hours away from Nags Head and Manteo. I sail the Pamlico area from Washington, NC. Mcotter's Marina. Then I point east for bigger water.
PM some time. maybe we can run together this year.
Oh yea, like to mention thanks to John at Kitty Hawk Water Sports. Exceptional service. I will be dropping a few more $$ your way soon.
