Roller Furler

my question is- Does anyone have a roller furling jib on their H16 how well does it help and how much did it cost

I have a hobie 18 furler for sale $50. You need to remove battens and you will loose some speed.

I know the jib has to (or at least should) be cut on the 16 to be furled. What is cut? Do they make the luff in a straight line from the head to the clew? I had my jib on the kitchen floor earlier today after getting it back from the loft for some repairs and noticed the curve in the luff around the lowest batten.

I'm guessing that's why it always flapped around that area without the battens.

Off topic, sorry. But if I read correctly, I should get more speed. My boat did not come with battens in the jib, previous owner did not know they were required, so the previous-previous owner probably ditch them for whatever reason.

I just got super battens (I know, not class legal), but have not tried them yet, can't wait, but still ice on the lakes.

thanks do you think it is worth it for when im out cruising around just having fun, and lets say i wanted to go race is it easily interchangeable and man i feel bad for you and the ice. not to brag or anything but im down here in FL and the sailing is perfect.

i have been using my normal jib... it does flap a bit but you get used to it...
i sail single most of the time and i love the furling jib...
i bought mine from a hobie dealer... i bought the hobie brand... it came with every thing i needed....

So I was about right, straight line from the head to the clew. Would be fairly cheap to get done by a sail loft. I might keep my eyes opened on eBay for a furler in the future. I've already been told I spend enough for this year and the boat is not in the water yet.

Haha so if i order the furler you think i could buy a rolling jib or have sail repair shop cut one down easily.

Just use your old jib for now... it only flaps at certain angles to the wind... like when you are sailing upwind and go a little to close to the wind,, it's kind of like a warning .......
And everyone knows the motor in your car runs much smoother after you have installed a roller furler .....");)...
