I am new to Hobie 16 sailing, only been out on my boat once. I live in Colorado the boat is at my mother-in-laws lake in Wisconsin. Recreational sailing only as it is the ONLY Hobie on the whole lake (at least 20 C Scows there = seem to be the boat of choice). Is it absolutely necessary that I shell out another 120 bucks for the Aussie Jib Halyard or can I just rake the mast back a bit and not too overtighten the standard jib halyard on a 1980 Hobie 16? Tired of spending more money each time I read another thread on this terrific website that has the newest and best stuff for that Hobie. Already spent TWICE what I paid for the boat in parts! And there was nothing wrong with it to begin with! And I am Cheap and trying to save a few bucks ! Thanks !!!

You absolutely do not need an aussie halyard - you can get plenty of performance from standard halyard. Save your money
