I wish Hobie would engrave the serial number with a readable stamp. It is very hard to read the etched number engraved by hand. Can't tell if a (0) or a (D) etc. I wrote down what I thought was the correct number for registration, but the etching is hard to define all of the digits. I bought my Outback from Small Boat Exchange in Shelburne, VT. and I recommend them highly. Is it possible to get the correct number based on what I interpreted from Hobie to confirm?

The same number should be on a white sticker near it also.

X2. It's a barcode sticker that has the serial number on it as well. I had the same confusion about mine as well and had to refer to the barcode sticker instead.

What do you think it reads?

The sequence will help determine letters from digits.

CCM or HCC

followed by a letter (model designation)

followed by 4 digits (sequential serial number)

then a letter (month of manufacture - a = January etc.)

then 3 digits (year of mfg and model year)

Rub some felt pen or talcum powder over the scratched-in version to make it more readable.

Also thank your lucky stars you didn't have the problem I had on my boat, namely no serial number ! By the time I went to look the paper label was long since gone and the little window in which the number is usually scratched was as smooth as a baby's bottom.
