Adhesive type fpr comptip

Folks,

Fitting my first comptip this week and curious what adhesive/epoxy people feel most appropriate for this purpose

It's best to use thickened epoxy. That way you could potentially remove the comptip in one piece if you need to. 5200 works, but it's permanent. The factory recommends 'Bondo".

I've seated 2 comptips, bondo worked great. Make sure you use rivet casings when attaching the tang.

also luff track on before or after seating comp tip? sorry for the questions folks but dont want to mess with the comp tip again - One and done hopefully

As long as it doesn't interfere with installation (test fit), the track can stay on. Trim it if it interferes.

Not much sticks to the Comptip track, but make sure that the "squeezings" get cleaned out of the sail track.

I always used golf club epoxy, available online from places like Golfsmith. It comes in black, and breaks down from heat lower than most ordinary epoxies, so you can pull a club head off of a graphite shaft with enough heat to loosen the bond, but not too much to break down the epoxy that the shaft is laminated with. You can still thicken it with silica if needed.

When you need to pull a Comptip with this stuff, you can put enough heat on the mast without discoloring the anodizing with a propane torch. Keep the torch moving, and as soon as you smell hot epoxy, it's ready to pull.

I think Bondo works great. Really easy to work with. I never recommended 5200 because it is soft and compresses under the loads placed on the joint. Needs a stiff and tight shim more than adhesion.
