The most astonishing part of this thread...Look at Brogger and Wessels!

The sad part is if you scrolled down 3 more places, you'd have found me. And I've not been active in almost two years.

BTW... I like the new Friend/Foe feature of this forum software.

Mostly lurking... I swing through every once in awhile when I need a break. Work has kept me pretty busy. Not sure how I stumbled onto this particular thread.

Not sailing nearly enough, but that's partially due to an injury last year. Hope Terraphobia is doing well now that she's got a chance to dry out.

Jeremy,

I've decided to have some fun with this repair. I purchased the spray gun from Harbor Freight (Central Pneumatic) & a pint of gel coat from West. I already have a 3M full face respirator, a compressor, a full set of velcro sanding pads (for granite polishing) & a few grinders. I'll make a video of this repair & post it back in here to show the final results w/ a total cost. So far, the gun & gel cost me $15 + $40. We'll see what happens 8) .

Go big! Send me an email if you need assistance.

When you spray the gel, don't mask it. You'll be able to feather the color out more easily rather than having to sand a hard tape line!

Make sure the substrate is solid before the gel.

Since we are on gelcoat. What quantity does it require to do a pair of hulls? Annacat bought a pint for a repair, I'm guessing a 2 or 3 gallons for both hulls.

Gel coat normally has about a ~50 sqft coverage at 20 mils. most manufactors recomend 15-18 mil thickness. I personally like spraying 25 mils so I have plently to cut and buff latter.

PS get a mil guage. even if it is the cheap biz card type.

I'm done with the gel coat reapair. Everything went fine & I'm happy with the final results. I decided against using the sprayer for several reasons - mainly because the damage area was small. I appreciate everyone's help & advice. W/o this forum, it might have been repaired using bondo.

That looks great and easy to do, I will remember this for when I need to do it to my boat some time in the future. Thanks for posting the video.

One thing I noticed was the bare metal vertical post next to the roller on the trailer, I am thinking that might be the reason for the damage in the first place. Put a rubber or plastic cover on that thing (my trailer has a roller on the vertical post).

Outstanding!!! A+

The brightness will fade over time, and your repair will become less noticeable.
