I'm going to be vague here in order to protect my sources...

Dude strolling through local flea market spots a brand new EPO 2 in a H16 upper and lower casting.

Homie, obviously not a sailor, is asking $20. Dude talks him down to $15 and scores.

Casting has no marking from ever being installed. Factory grease still new looking. Blade has very minor scratching. Factory white industrial bubble wrap still taped onto tiller connector. Upper arm is loose, that's the only real issue.

Who's missing a rudder?

Meeee tooo!

It's just so weird. The Hobie dealer network is pretty tight. I'm surprised that no one has noticed a missing rudder...yet. It's not like sailboat dealers are flush with money, so much so that they can throw $500 out the window.

Something's definitely fishy.

May have been taken in transit, and the person it was being shipped to hasn't made a claim yet.

Spot on CA.
"new" items in unlilkely areas curiously under-priced should always be a red flag.
Rec'ing dealer most likely filed a claim against the carrier for damaged/missing material upon reciept. Carriers usually take the hit regarding pilferenge and damages from shipper to consignee, its contractual.
Not implying LTL/over the road carriers has sticky finger drivers and mat handlers, drivers bumpdocks at a kabillion company's back door daily. Anyone can easily pilfer other's shipments on the trailer/truck.
Though less likely regarding parcel type carriers (Fed Ex, UPS, DHL)

Holes in the transit system-flea markets continue to offer intrigueing items.
