While putting the rig back together for the year I noticed that I am missing a part of my side stay attachment. It is a quarter turn fitting that goes from the attachment in the hull to the adjustable stay. Is this part necessary or can I simply adjust for it on one side? What hazard is there in just eliminating this part entirely?

Thanks

If you are referring to the twist toggle that screws into the metal anchor bar under the gunwale (Lip) then that is what attaches to the bottom of the stay adjuster. Without this part I am not sure what you feel you would attach the shrouds (adjusters) to? Am i reading this wrong?

The twist toggle works as a universal joint. Keeps the shrouds from pulling the pin sideways and bending / breaking it.

To use a boat (short term) you could connect the adjuster directly to the pin, but rotate the pin so the adjuster can hinge towards the mast tang.
