My friend hit a parked car trying to dock the hobie in 15 mph winds. He missed 3 tacks then finally jibed it and on a reach with sails powered all the way up pushing against the shrouds he flew up the boat ramp out of the water and along the side of a fisherman's truck with one pontoon (the truck had just been resprayed!).
I no longer let my friend helm the boat. I have him practicing on heavy air days with the buoy out in the lake. It gives him a mark he can see, something to hit, and some real practice with no risk of property damage.
Ok.. I am hoping this is enough time since you have posted that you don't get to upset with me... But this is seriously funny... Yeah.. I know it wasn't for you at the time... But damn... If I had seen this happen... first I would have checked to make sure everyone was OK.. Then I would have had to walked away for a minute and had a really good laugh...
Seriously... Smashing a car with a sailboat under power... I am sitting here having to take breaks from typing this because I am laughing... and passing this story along for sure.....
Heck.. you know the drill... typically you can entertain yourself all day watching idiot powerboaters on a busy boat ramp...
But this...
I hope you are not to mad at me for having a great laugh at someones expense.. (hopefully it wasn't to much of an expen$e..) but dang....
Oh... and docks suck... I have done it a bunch.. and it just isn't any fun... Powerboats don't understand and are always in the way... So I just bypass the dock and hog the ramp for a few minutes... Depower on the way... drop the main... ect.. Dropping the main is pretty easy to do on the water with some practice...
