Hi Everyone! I'm Kevin and I have been lurking for about a year. My local Hobie dealer here in Raleigh NC has a papaya TI in stock and I'm getting ready to take the plunge after much deliberation! Very expensive but very cool. My sailing experience is on a sunfish, which I loved.

I have kind of a specific question that is probably better placed in the "transportation" forum, but this one appears to have better traffic and I'm in a hurry! I want to buy the lightest weight trailer to haul behind my wife's CRV and also be able to use it as a "cart" for beach or non vehicle access launches. I would like to get some feedback on 1) is this the most accepted/best way to haul (over car topping), and 2) what do I buy and who do I buy it from and how much should it cost? I have searched the forums and have gleaned some but not a complete picture. The pdf manual for the trailex SUT-200-AI shows the "completed trailer" looking a little bare. Do additional supports/cradles need to be purchased? In short, I'm looking for the best way to safely trailer/cart this thing without dropping another 2 grand!

We will be using this boat locally at Jordan and other lakes, and also for beach trips to Ocean Isle. We have a big trip planned for July 2-9 so I need to get a move on! Any help is MUCH appreciated!

Welcome, Kevin!

We have the double-wide Trailex we purchased from our local Hobie dealer, so we can have the TI on one side and the Revo on the other. With both yaks on it, it's still light enough for me to manhandle it around, so long as the slope isn't too steep or the ground too filled with bumps or potholes.

When we bought the trailer, TI and the Revo - all as a package - the trailer came in first, some four or five days after we ordered it. I can't remember if the TI came with a cradle or not, but either way, the cost isn't too steep. And yes, I would recommend using a trailer over car topping.

Ditto - what Mitch said.

I too, have the double wide trailer so I can haul 2 TIs or another kayak.

I first struggled with getting a trailer but ultimately decided to go with a trailer.

Glad I did, so easy to launch and load via the trailer.

Congrats on your purchase you will love it.

Thanks! I made the purchase! Will be picking up boat tomorrow and the trailer will hopefully be here in a week or so. With the single trailer, I have high hopes of dual use as a "dolly"... I'm thinking of some sort of handlebar/strap or human harness system for the tongue as the most difficult thing is probably bending over to keep the trailer level while moving it.

I can't wait to get it all home, assembled and into the water!

For maneuvering the disconnected trailer without back strain: pick up a straight water ski tow handle, add enough line and a snap clip so you can wrap the line around the trailer and have the handle end up a few inches above the bow of the TI. Easy to grip, no bending. 8)

I think it is best plan TI purchase and go out big trip on July.It is most interesting place where you go on trip. you search the trip site and arrange the big trip. If you buy own TI and get good enjoy with your family. It's your memorable trip in your life.
