I just came across this video & learned lots of new ideas. This one appears to be top shelf advice - in my newbie opinion.

what is the block and lines for on the bridle/forestay?
mast stepping?

There's no block / lines on the forestay. There's a bit of shock cord to take out the slack in the forestay, that's all.

There's a line to tension the luff on the jib - that's a fairly recent (in the last 20 years) development.

Right at the beginning of the video, there is a pulley and looks like 4 lengths of red line, running from the chain plate up to the tang, besides the forestay.
