re: The Mississippi State Game kayak races.

Where were all Hobie pedal boats? Even though no other pedal boats showed up for the races, Hobie was well represented. Several comments heard after the races were, "I want a boat like that!" as they pointed to my Hobie Adventure.

I'm thrilled to say that my Hobie Adventure was the first kayak across the finish line in the 2-1/2 mile race. There were about 30 to 40 racers, including about a half dozen surfskis. I've only trained for three weeks and this was my first race of the year.

That's right, the Hobie Adventure beat an Epic V8 today! Apparently those narrow surfski boats do not do well in choppy conditions. There were many capsizes, but the stable pedal boat kept passing them by while handing the waves with ease.

Overall average speed was 5.4.

Choppy waters made for a fun race. Here I am heading for the finish line. For more photos of the Mississippi State Game kayak races, go to the following links.

I've been training for the MR340 in an Adventure.

They're postponing the race due to flooding (and I believe they'll ultimately cancel this year's race) but I plan to whup some ass if I get a chance.

I'd love to find a few other LONG races (>150 miles).

I have no interest in races longer than 40 miles so I have not looked into the rumor that Keith Benoist, creator of the Mississippi Phatwater Challenge is considering creating an endurance challenge on the Mississippi River. His email address is: keith atsymbol kayakmississippi.com, or visit his website at: http://www.kayakmississippi.com/index.php

Rnykster, congratulations on a great race! Very impressive that you beat all the surfskis as well :!: :!: I liked the action sequence at your finish. It seems, the greater the headwind and/or chop, the better the Hobie performs against the competition. Keep us posted about your upcoming race schedule. 8)
