Two questions for all of you who are smarter than me...

1: I have an old 82 H16 with an all aluminum mast and I believe the old single sheave mast head. When I was rigging up the boat the other day, the wire halyard broke through the side of the pulley, and got wedged between the pulley and the mast head casting. I ended up having to cut the wire and now my pulley is all chewed up so...what's the best way to fix this?

2: What's the best way to find a leak in your hulls? My port hull is leaking and I can't figure out where the leak is.

Thanks Kooooks!

My answer to Q1 is a little weak, but you might be able to find a replacement mast head off of someones bent mast. If you do replace the whole assembly make sure you reseal your mast.

A2, well, how much does your hull leak. These boats should be drained after each time you sail, and the plugs left off to let the hulls air out. If the leak is small, don't worry. If you are taking on more than a quart a hull, read this

Thanks for the reply. I'll look for an old mast, but what about the mast head part from the comp tip masts? Will that work? and more importantly, should I/could I ghetto rig the halyard wire (which I had to cut) with a rope line to sail and just cleat off the rope instead of using the mast hook...

I'd like to be able to sail this weekend, Fourth of July! America!

Thanks

Don't know how your are set for tools and know how but take a look at this post for some ideas. Maybe contact 'Shadme' and see if he can help you.

I've seen some guys repairing that changing the original with a Naylamid shaped on a lathe.

Don't know if you americans call that material they used (naylamid) as we mexicans do, but hopes this helps you.

As for leaking, they pretty much told you the standard procedure.

NYLAMID® is ALM Corporation's trademark for Nylon 6 resin.

I had the same problem with my mast head wheel. I drilled out the rivet in the middle, took the pieces of my wheel to a local machine shop, and then had them make a new one out of aluminum. I even created a video about it on Youtube.com

There's this company that could make you a new sheave, if that is what is needed.
