Sundancer,
I am transporting my Oasis successfully on my Subaru's roof rack, and its crossbars are 4' apart. It is turned upside down, but I have designs on using conduit inside swim noodles as rails to run lengthwise down the bottom and transporting the kayak right side up. There are two grooves that run most of the length of the hull that the rails would kind of fit into and provide support lengthwise.
I want to try transporting it right side up so I can mount some fishing mounts on the rails, and skip the rollover maneuver before hoisting the kayak. I also think this would make it easier to put the kayak on top of the Subaru solo. I can solo it into my 8' F150 bed easily, but I am thinking of downsizing to a Ranger, so I think I'll have to go either the roof rack or bed extender route for it.
Good luck with your Oasis. My wife and I are loving ours. With the controls up front on the 2011, I can skipper from up there where I can see obstructions better, be the bowman for landings, knock down the spray, and not be able to see any coasting going on behind me. I can also hear her suggestions better, while she can't hear my muttered replies at all, so it works out great for us.
