i have a few questions for a newish hobie cat owner.

I had a few questions. I was wondering what I should seal me mast base with its so loose and I don't want it to leak.

I just got a black mesh tramp and I was wondering if it would cook me alive?

I just picked up a set of trashed sails mainly to get a spair boom for a sail that im haveing built but he sails are repairable so I fixed them but the battions are trash. Are the flat ones from west marine are they crap or should I buy a set of stock style ones?

And the last one is that the mast and tramp frame is fades and I was wondering what do you guys do to fix that. Should I get them powder coated, painted or polished?

Real quick:

1. Black tramp won't cook you alive.

2. Recommend stock battens only because I don't know any better. WM's may be fine, others will have to verify.

3. Penetrol for your mast and anodized metal. Get it at Lowes/Home Depot for <$10. I got some and did a trial with it. At first it left a heavy deposit that I could do nothing about. Then a few days later all that was gone and the test area looked great. Some here have recommended to leave it alone already and sail her! Up to you.

I have been sailing it for about 6 months. And haveing a blast. Im about to redo my trailer and I wanted to fix up the boat while the trailer is getting worked on.

I may be wrong on this, and if so hopefully someone will correct me, but the mast base does not need to be sealed. I believe there is a foam plug a about 6-8 inches form the base. This should keep any water from entering the mast from the base. However, the only way for water to enter the mast from the base is from a turtled situation. This would mean that water is getting in from somewhere else.

My mast base was also loose when I bought the boat. I drilled some new holes throught the mast base and the mast and popped in some new rivets, which resulted in tightening the mast base.
