Living in the central Florida area it is a rare experience to kayak and not see alligators. When I first started kayaking I was a bit timid, but quickly realized that gators primarily just want to get away when you approach them in a kayak. Of course those that have been fed are a different story, but fortunately they are in the minority.
For those of you that live in areas of the world where crocodiles inhabit your kayaking waters I am curious to know if they too just want to get away from you. I know that crocodiles are generally more agressive than gators, but I don't really ever hear much about kayakers getting attacked by crocs and even less by gators.

It appears not ( http://www.standard.net/topics/outdoors ... ts-kayaker)
I've been to Africa several times and have traveled quite a bit of the nile (not on Kayaks). Seeing 20 ft plus crocs up close is a humbling experience, and I'm pretty sure they are not afraid of us. The kayak would be a very nice serving platter. Crocs are only found south of Aswan dam. Traveling the Nile on a kayak (I would choose a TI) would be the trip of a lifetime (north of Aswan of course). I've also been to Australia several times and the crocs there don't seem any friendlier, but the Aussies are a very brave bunch.

I live in Florida now, and would be aprehensive if a 15 foot gator surfaced near me (thinking serving platter).

We should ask Chekika if he has ran across any large salt water crocs down in the everglades, though I haven't seen him post in a while. maybe he got eaten (just kidding).
