PiranhaMAX 180 tri beam

Hey guys I'm thinking about buying the PiranhaMAX 180 tri beam, but I'm not sure if this installation kit will work with the transducer this fish finder uses.

Here is the installation kit I'm looking at:

It seems like the transducer and the kit don't match, but I'm not sure. But there is no other installation kit.

What are you guys using? Any advice?

Yes it will work but it’s not necessary. All you need is some good slow cure epoxy. I have this same model installed on my Oasis.

If the tribeam has transducers on angles, inside the hull mounting will not work properly. There can be no air between the transducer faces and the hull.

Tribeam works great mounted in the hull or over the side. I've done both on my AI's and I prefer it in the hull st sailing speed because it's quieter, but the temp. reading are no longer as accurate.

Ah damn it, I ordered it a few hrs ago. Will dual be a safe bet?

Think of a transducer as a car door speaker. When it pops its 50-200 htz note the hull must move with the with the vibe. Without intimate contact to the hull the "notes" are too muffled to get a good echo back from the schools of fish. The bottom depth (vertical) reading will work because of good contact to the hull. The side scanning, angled transducer/speakers are the issue.

I have thought, but haven't done yet, that there is a spot up forward where the rise of the hull would match the angle of the side s of the tri-beam. If the hull was dam'd properly and filled with a cup of water I'd bet a hundred dollars you would get good performance from the tri-beam.

I guess I'll just have to wait and see what comes in the box. I'll try to place it somewhere in the hull that mates best the transducer. Man I hate it when I do things like this. Maybe I can try to sell it and get a dual beam.

Anyone have one of the PiranhaMAX portables: 150, 160, 230 or an RF15? the suction cup mount and wireless transducer seem ideal for a yak.

Does the Mirage drive interfere with the fish finder signal? I was planing on placing the transducer just ahead of the drive. But started thinking that it may screw the signal up.


Any idea where would be the best place to install it on a Revo?

That's where mine is located on my AI, between the Mirage Drive well, and the mast cup. I get full use of the tri-beam and no interference from the drive. I do pick up minor interference from my fishing buddies 180 when our transducers line up when we troll/sail within 100 feet of each other though.
