Has anyone found an easy to use, accurate and consistent, real-time wind measurement app for iphone, computer link or program available. Clearly one would like to know what wind conditions are like prior to loading up your Hobie and driving an hour to the lake. Living in Arizona, this information would prove to be very useful. Any Desert Sailors have their ears on? I have the Windfinder App for Iphone but find it very inconsistent with predicted values vs. real time wind measurements.

iwindsurf.com which has an app called windalert. They have I believe a couple thousand sensors nationwide. Their service is not free, but it is quite helpful and can save you gas money from getting skunked.

I use this: http://shiftyjelly.com/Pocket_Weather.html

but with a tagline like "Because you live in Australia not America" it's pretty clear to see that it's for Australia only. There may be something similar for USA, but it'll give you an idea of what could be available.

Not sure if you have anything like it over there, but the most popular site in Australia is SeaBreeze.

This is my homepage: http://www.seabreeze.com.au/graphs/qld.asp

Gives me real time info about swells and more importantly, wind. The list of sites on that particular page gives me a good idea of what is happening up and down the most local parts of the coast, to where I sail.

Even better, the place I launch from has a webcam so I can see if it's flat or white-cappy, too busy, or even if there's gonna be someone to race when I get there!

http://www.hyc.net.au/webcam.htm

The webcam is provided by the Brisbane Storm Chasers website, so it's a bit of a "scratch my back" deal, as far as I can guess.

This "Yacht" Club is only about 15 minutes from me and located at a public boat ramp. It's really great knowing what to expect before I leave the house. It may be worth putting the idea forward to your local sailing club and see if they'll consider it.

Can't hurt to try...

Windfinder works great. I use the website instead of the app because the app does not show the pages I like. Here is the link for Lake Lanier with the 3 days of forecast shown:

http://www.windfinder.com/weatherforecast/lake_lanier_gainesville

This is the page I use most of the time but they have other options. They have lots of locations and the info is fairly accurate (it is still weather forecasting).

I also have found a weatherbug site at the local sailing club that offers real time wind and a web cam. Do a search for your area.

Go to NOAA, type in hourly wind speed and zip code, also works well, now I just wish I had a trailer hitch!

I use the NOAA site on my computer before I go out and on my old style analog cellphone (which I have saved as a "favorite") while I am sailing. See attached for example for Panama City Beach, FL:

https://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/stationhome.html?id=8729210

This NOAA site only works for their stations along the Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico and Pacific.

Their main web page is:

https://tidesandcurrents.noaa.gov/

I have found that sometimes just a saved website works better than the app on my Iphone. You can save any web site (this forum for example) on the main screen of the Iphone. I look at the forum all the time with the Iphone. I again recommend the windfinder site.
