Hi everyone - last summer my traveler cleart/swivel assembly separated from the rear crossbar on my Hobie 16.

I looked carefully at it and it appears that the swivel attaches to the crossbeam in 3 places. One screw aft of the swivel, and 2 screws under the swivel itself.

All 3 had stripped.

I replaced the aft screw with a rivet which has loosened up.

The 2 screws under the swivel are not biting at all.

Should I tap larger holes for new screws?

Is there a nut inside the rear crossbeam that a bolt would thread into? (that would be ideal)

Or should I put 2 new rivets in place of the 2 screws (under the swivel)?

I've had a difficult time finding rivets long enough to span the swivel plate down into the rear crossbar.

Thanks for your help!

G

I would put a larger diameter sheet metal screw in, no there it no nut inside the cross bar.

Thanks,

Actually I ended up tapping new threads and putting a stainless steel machine screw in there. It worked like a charm AND I got some new tools out of the deal! There's absolustley no play in the swivel base now. It's not going anywhere.

Boats are so cool :)
