I've got a tandem Oasis and am seriously considering getting a Sport for when I want to go out alone, but since I already have 2 Mirage drives and will probably never use both kayak simultaneously (and if I did, I could always use just 1 drive on the Oasis), I was wondering if I could save $500 by getting the boat without the drive.

If not... I guess I could sell the extra drive on ebay or something??

personally i would keep it. you never know when you will need a spare part or complete drive. plus if you ever decide to sell the boat later, you still have the part that gives hobie its above average value for a sit on top

Yes. Hobie apparently allows its dealers to deduct the costs of not needed items such as Mirages, paddles, seats, casettes and other stuff.
Some dealers are willing to do this and others aren't.

I have the same issue. We have an Oasis, and it is great for my wife and I, but it is a beast for a banged up 72 year old guy.

So I will be buying a Revo 11 from any close/local N California dealer, who is willing to discount what I don't want/need to be replicated and offer me a fair price for the basic Revo 11..

Besides the savings cost wise, we like many people have the issue of where to safely store extra Mirages, seats, vests, paddles/oars, cassetes and whatever.

This link will take you to a thread, where I asked this same question re why not stripped Hobies.

I bought a FishHawk 12 and could have had a Revo, Sport or an Outback for what I paid for the FH12.

Hobie would have had the money, and I would not be faced with the wind/tide and distance restrictions I have to face with my FH12:

Matt answers your question and mine in his reply.

Cool, thanks for the input.

I guess my decision will depend on how much they can discount the boat without the drive. it would be nice to have the extra parts though. Hmmmm....

So I got my Revo11, yay! But instead of getting it WITHOUT the drive (which was my initial question), I ended up getting it with an upgraded TURBO drive. So now I've got 2 normal drives and a turbo drive that I can use in either the Oasis or the Revo. I'm spoiled.

Those turbo fins can do wonders... I wonder if they will come up with even longer ones..?

Is there any noteable performance increase with the turbos?

Is it more difficult to pedal with the Turbo versus the standard fins?

Thanks

The turbo fins have a little bit of resistance compared to the standard fins (not much, though), but the performance is much better. I've read they add about 10% more speed, but to me is more than that. I highly recommend them.
