I noticed that most SIK users get in that way. When they transition to a SOT kayak they do the same thing. Of course, there is no wrong way to mount your kayak as long as it works for you, but it's so much easier to back up to the boat and drop your butt right in, then swing your legs over. You can get out by reversing the procedure, but just have to remember to make sure your weight is centered over your feet before leaving the boat (or you can end up sitting in the water).
