I have a 2001 Hobie Mirage Tandem kayak that I wanted to get the rudder "weed eater" type string replaced. I brought it to our local Hobie dealer and they replaced the original "weed eater" type string with this orange surfing string. They assured me it is stronger than the original.

I used the kayak last weekend and found the rudder will not stay down and the turning is not like before. We had to use paddles to get back to shore.

What is the original type string I need to request? More important, does Hobie still sell the original "weed eater" type?

Or is there something else I should be looking for to why the rudder will not stay down in water?

It likely adjustments, not the material. We use Spectra cord that is near zero stretch.

Original rudder I assume...

Other rudder manuals are in the support area:
