I prefer my 21Se for long weekends at the lake but if you only are going for a day of sailing than a 16 is hard to beat for quick set up 30 minutes or so including loading the cooler. :) That why I have a 21Se and two H16.

The 21Se has really comfortable wing seats and it is so stable. I solo it in 10-15 mph winds. But once the wind picks up you will need crew. The 21Se takes a full hour to setup but it is worth it in comfort to me.

Well I've been sailing a H-16 since 1975. 58 years old and still gives a thrill. Too hard headed to change maybe. I love it! It's tough as can be, fast enough for me and a real hand full when she blows!

56 years old and sail a h16 every chance I get. I can take a load of grand kids out and go slow or lighten the load and trap out!

I crewed the first day of the Charlotte Harbor Regatta at a combined age of 110. The final 2 days, Steve crewed and it jumped to 114 and Steve is just starting protrate cancer therapy.

My 1984 Hobie 16 was older than many of the competitors.

You guys are the GREATEST!!!

I'm still deciding on which H16 to buy- I have lots
of choices here on the Gulf Coast. Will post pics
as soon as I purchase.

You say that you have sailed Hobies in the past and lately on vacations, what models have you sailed and what are your impressions of them. I own a Getaway which is my first beach cat and I love it, but I would suggest you take a long hard look at the Wave. There are plenty of videos on You Tube of Waves flying a hull, if excitement is what you want. If you are in an area with lighter winds, you can always add the furling jib, I would add it no matter where I sailed. In addition to the jib put the padded back rests on it and I think you have a really fun boat. My Getaway has the wings on it, but I find myself sitting on a hull and using the wing as a back rest a great deal of the time, comfortable lazy sailing. I also take my 22 month old daughter out on it and find the wings add a little more security with her on board, or when I am solo a few miles offshore, perhaps a false security but it is one more thing to grab hold of, or to keep me from going overboard if I do something stupid.

The Wave is small, light, easy to move, trailer or park in a garage. It is almost indestructible, easy to set up, fun to sail with a jib and comfortable to sail while leaning back on a padded support. No boom to worry about or tiller extension to flip back and forth. I wanted a front tramp and the ability to put 4 or 5 adults on board, or I probably would have bought a wave.

I started a thread a few weeks back about how old Hobie owners are. I thought at 64 I was at the top of the list, much to my surprise, I found that there are a lot of guys out there that have many years on me and they take Hobie sailing serious, so you are almost a baby. Friends that I hadn't seen for a while tell me I am looking younger. I tell them I feel younger and it's because of my baby daughter and my Hobie. So if you want to look younger and feel younger, I would suggest you try a Hobie first.

Good luck with your decision and hopefully your search after you have decided which one.
