Sunday the 4th a group of upper Texas Coast kayakers met at "The Slabs" on the extreme upper Texas Gulf coast to fish for big bull red fish. At one time there were 11 of us on the water and this report has a collection of pictures taken by the group.

When we got there, about 9 am, we found pristine conditions..........."Ice Cream", if you will.

That was soon to change, but that is later in the story.

We all started loading to launch:

The group launch ahead of me and when I got on the water my fish finder decided to register "zero" for a while so I go out to where everyone was and I see some birds working about 150 yds farther out so I go out there. As soon as I anchor up, my fish finder decides to work and I am in 15 ft. of water.Wasn't there 10 minutes when I get a run, hookup and land my first bull red.

So I start thinking, this could be a good day....................then I sit for an hour with nothing happening except the wind is steadily getting stronger and stronger.

Then Eclipse504 lands a good bull red!

We all start moving around, some going deeper and some moving in closer. I decide to go 13 ft of water and when I get there, I get a run, hookup and land number 2.

And the wind start picking up more and more.

Redhead Fishing start catching them!

BTBrich and Sheriff_John get there later but are soon on the water.

And they start catching fish!

At 2:PM it is getting rougher and rougher, but we all keep catching fish.

BTBrich:

I even catch a few:

All the while Redhead Fishin is loading up too!

And a double for Redheadfishin!!

As I am reeling in my 6th fish I think to myself,"maybe I will just stay a while longer, they are biting so good"......wrong, I lose that fish 2/3 of the way to the kayak. I finally get my sixth catch in.....caught on a crab.

By this time it was a rockin and rollin!!!

Image

So at 3 PM, I decide I have had enough, but I leave three fishermen still on the water. They catch a couple more fish and get blown off the water and were on the sand before I left for home.

It was a good day fishing......although a tad rough at the end.......but a good winter day fishing!!! :rockin

*Credits for pics to Redhead Fishin, btbrich and eclipse504.................thanks guys.
