Hobie Pro Angler accessories rigging set up

Fellas –
Need a little help. Looking into getting a PA in the next few months. I know there are a few extra toys that I’d like to get to make fishing/kayaking a lot easier. Being that you guys are already set up & fishing, can you guys that own PA’s please post a few pic of your rigging set up? That way I can get some ideas on the best locations for toys. Figured this would be better than placing fish finder, GPS, and other items in a spot only to realize later that wasn’t the best spot & hindrance to my fishing. Then I have to fix what I messed up. Could get a little costly, knowing my luck! I didn’t think reinventing the wheel would be the smartest idea; just copying what’s already a good idea will keep me fishing instead of on land fixing rookie mistakes.

The first time I went out in my PA i imagined where I would want everything. Go fishing & see howd youd like things setup, where & how far from reach. Making these decisions will dictate whether u setup on the boards or rails. Then pics will help with the details. But first id just go fishing with no gadgets.

I concur...you have to go fishing with it first. We're all different sizes with different reaches, vision, etc. Get it on the water fishing and then think about where you need that rod holder, fishfinder,etc..

We can all post pictures as ideas, but you have to make sure those ideas fit your comfort zone.

Thanks for the advice. Figured the actual placement will be determined once I do a couple runs. I’m just looking for ideas as well. I saw a recent post of some who took bungee cord and made a netting on the back of the seat. These are the ideas that I’m interested in.

All good advice, but I would add one more point of consideration.......flexibility.

The key in my opinion is what degree of flexibility do you have while on the water with a given accessory. Case in point - you're on the water and want to troll but the wind is off the starboard side but you have you rod holder permanently mounted on the starboard side. What do you do while you are on the water? Sure you could turn your PA around and troll the other way, but then your line might end up too far away from your PA and actually not run true or run shallower than you intended. Wouldn't it be great to have flexibility to move your rigging around while on the water and be able to adjust your setup to the conditions at hand?

That is why I opted for the YakAttack GearTrac mods on my Hobie. It gives me greater flexibility to place rod holders and camera mounts where I need them for that particular day.

The best part is that Luther is now a proud owner of a Pro Angler and has several modifications exclusively for the PA. He also owns a couple of Outbacks as well, and helped me with my mods on my Revolution 13. So he has the Hobie side covered pretty well. Hobie also now features Luther's YakAttack mods in their 2012 Spring catalog.

Good idea to not mount anything right away. When I get my PA I picture going out fishing and using a wax pencil to mark possible spots. Probably just the Hobie Bar will be mounted.
