I see some boats with custom graphics on the sails.

How is this done?

Vinyl appliques. They work well on Mylar-based sails (smooth surface), but not so much on Dacron cloth because of the texture.

On Dacron it is best to use insignia cloth for the graphics.

You can get it at Sailmakerssupply.com

You also need the adhesive backing applique material.

Can insigia cloth be cut on a typical vinyl cutter?

I got a sample of insignia and it cut wonderfully on my plotter/cutter! So I ordered a couple hundred bucks wroth in various colors. Anyone need sail graphics? I'm starting to do some graphics commercially if any one is in the need for hull or sail graphics. You can apply them yourself.
