I picked up one of those books about Hobie's and it recommends installing footholds on the hulls. Usually some kind of rope with rubber tubing around the outside, big enough to put a foot into so you don't get thrown off when on the trapeze.

And advice on how to install and where to install these?

They are on page 11 of you Hobie catalog. I have seen these installed on the stern about where the rear pylon is. I have never used them, but they screw into the deck, or you can thru bolt them thru the lip of the H16. People also use windsurfing foot straps, they just screw in the deck. Most people are not using these on H16's, especially sense the masts got racked back and we don't pitchpole near as often!!

Thanks,

So you just drill out two holes in the rear deck and then screw the bolts in with some sort of sealant?

If you want to put them on the side rails do you just drill and tap or do you put a nut on the other side?

If you tap into the rails on the H16 you will be remounting the straps very soon. The wall thickness is not that much.

My H18 has the straps. They are mounted by drilling the two holes in the lip of the deck. The rope is then passed throught the holes. A knot tied in each end of the rope to keep it from going through the hole. Just make sure you don't make it too tight or you won't be able to get your foot under the strap.

So when you say lip of the deck you mean the top of the hull on the edge?

I will be putting them on my H14 and my Tiger.

I have some old windsurfer straps that I will press into service.

Yes, it's the portion that overhangs the sides of the hulls. This way you are not introducing a new hole that leads to the inside of your hulls.

I have even seen some installations where people used Stainless cotter pins shoved through the rope ends to keep them from pulling through the holes.
