tram help

Hi im have a lot of trouble with my tramp (from 1978 h16) im thing its original. But my problem is that it pulls out of the frame.

Replace the luff rope...the one that slides in the groved frame rails...should be easy work for any sail shop or canvas shop with pre-streched three strand rope. Hell even u can do it at home with a zigzag pattern stitch.

buy a new tramp, just kidding, look on page 21 of the Hobie Catalog, trentec tramp clamp should do the trick, if not then you will need to replace the rope inside, the material may tear in the machine if it is older.


wow a 1978 Hobie product that is just now failing, this is reason along to buy Hobie genuine products, THEY LAST!

And the best part is, is that I paid $200 for the boat and the tramp and a little bit of delam are it only proplems

Consider reinstalling the tramp upside down to get a few more miles out of it.

While cleaning a badly stained yellow tramp, I noticed that the underside of the tramp was in excellent condition. SO, I merely reinstalled the tramp with the shiny side up...very nice looking especially after double lacing with blue yacht braid.

I'll keep my eyes open for any problems with this unique fix as I stretch out the usefullness of this 1982 tramp.

Yeah minus the hiking straps and better feel, upside down sure looks alot better most of the time. also, those trentec tramp clamps did wonders on mine. Just make sure to get like 20 of them total at least. one package (it was a very old unopened package that i acquired with the boat) has 10, which when doubled up is abot 5 positions. Not enough to hold the tramp in when the rope starts popping out.

Also, you may want to make sure that your siderails are not widened. that may be an issue if something abnormal happened....
