Getaway-Wave FrankenTrimaran

A few years back I worked at the sailing beach in Wilmette's Gillson park. We had a rental fleet of 4 getaways and 5 waves. As the boats got on in age they began to break down on us, the getaways first. We started swapping around hulls to maintain working boats, this left us with several spare junk getaway hulls. One slow gray day at the beach my coworkers and I decided to get creative. After some brainstorming we went down to the boats with a sawzall and a vague plan. By cutting into the getaway hull we were able to fit it into the frame of a perfectly good wave. With the longer bow we were able to step a getaway mast and rigging. With some minor modification we found a way to work the wave's tramp into the getaway hull, leaving us with a kinda hammock style deck. She sailed once, fantastic upwind but absolutely horrifying downwind. The loose construction lead to a lot of rattling and shifting parts. Sat on the beach the rest of the summer till I had to pull her apart in the fall.

I can't help but wonder if a new Hobie trimaran something along these lines might not turn out to be the Hobie 16 of the 21st century.
