trailering a hobie

I have a hobie 16 and was wondering about tying the boat to the trailer. Am I better to use the tramp frame or can I go over the front and back of each hull to secure the boat to the trailer?

I prefer tying around the corner castings and strapping down toward the inside of the hulls to an eye on the trailer crossbars, if this makes sense. The castings have a flat surface on their tops (directly over the pylons) you can get a strap over, so you need four individual shorter straps (6' max.)

Straps all the way over the hulls (outside to outside) seem to lossen easily and when loose can leave nasty flogging marks on the hulls. I did see a fellow using the over the hull strap and split swim noodles between strap and hull.

I go around the pylons on the inside of the hulls, under the tramp, with one tie-down per pylon (4), and hook them in a loop around joints on the cross bars of the trailer, or onto eye-hooks on the trailer. But many things work. Just push it really hard to test. As long as you cant move it around on the trailer, the road shouldnt either. Most of the stress is on the hulls and suspension flexing anyway.

My first Hobie had eyebolts on the cross bars on the trialer about a foot inboard of the hulls. Then there were stainless cables over the tramp frame with a simple spring loaded over center type tighener to hold the boat down. It worked very well and I'm looking into making the same system for my latest Hobie purchase.
