Just got a free 14

And I can't wait to go try it out for the first time. I sail regularly on a bigger boat, Wed night/weekend races and such but am looking so forward to just jumping on this whenever I want.
7466 on the front pylon, which by my understanding makes it older than 73. It's got a small hole on one of the hulls about as big as a nickel that I'll quick fix so I can use it for the next month. The tramp is in great shape considering, although some parts of the hiking straps are coming unstitched. Basically it totally needs a powerwashing, on a lower setting of course.
My biggest concern is that the hulls seem very hard except one spot on the top, about a foot forward of the front pylon. I press down there and you hear a crackling noise and it's definitly plyable. I don't worry about sailing it for the rest of the season like that, but this winter I'm stripping the whole thing down and fixing everything. The total area of the trouble spot is like one foot long by 5 inches across. Is it feasible to think the drill and fill/epoxy injection would work for an area that size?

edited to add that the area around the pylon is hard as a rock, it's a foot forward of the pylon that the cracking sounds can be heard when you press it with your hand.

Where are you in MD? I'm down in Calvert County, we have a couple cats on the beach here, and there are more in Solomons. I have an older Hobie 14 (even older than that, its serial # is in the 4,000), and it was raced hard but has been upgraded and had a REALLY REALLY good bottom/paint job, with super stiff hulls (they sound like Waterrat 505 hulls, which are the best small boat hulls made). I still sail it hard (whats 30kts and 10ft waves...) but thats why I have a dolphin striker and trap wires .

As for your deck delam issue, you can try the "drill and fill" method, but you might have to go to the porthole repair method.

ha! I live next to the Catholic Church which is right across the street from the beach you keep your cats on. What's the odds on that?
Thanks for the advice. I got the cat from a girl that works down at the biolab. She's been here for a couple years but she's from the UK and I believe she's going back in a month or so. She asked me if she could keep the boat at my place so that she could sail it before she leaves to go home and pretty much said that when she does leave, she'd just leave the boat here which is a pretty sweet deal. I have the boat in the yard and it needs some work other than the soft spot. It's got a nickel to quarter sized hole on the side near the back of one of the hulls, and some of the cam cleats stick and such. It's been in someone elses backyard all summer sitting under a tree so the 'white' tramp and most of the lines are more greenish in hue but I'm hoping a soft powerwash and some scrubing will take care of that. The girl is traveling right now, not back till Sunday or Monday and she's got the sails and boom in her car somewhere in Lusby so I haven't seen those yet but hope they're in alright condition.
