Hi folks,
This is my first post here. I've gained some great info reading the past few weeks though.
I am looking to buy my first Hobie. I am thinking Outback or Revo for lake fishing.
I did a dealer search on Hobie's site and it lists Cabela's as my nearest dealer, although they aren't a typical dealer. They have the item shipped directly from manufacturer. I live about 70 miles from the Cabela's headquarters.
I wrote Hobie customer service and asked whether I would be getting a 2007 model (which I suspect I would), and who would I contact then regarding any warranty work, or to order parts and accessories. I don't think the person I corresponded with knows who/what Cabela's is, and they assured me that the kayak would not be shipped directly from manufacturer (as Cabela's clearly states), and that my nearest dealer would handle all warranty work, etc. The guys at the Cabela's marine center have never even seen a Hobie kayak (I asked), so it seems doubtful they would be the ones to do any warranty work, etc.
The nearest stocking dealer is 200+ miles away (Denver), which would not be a big problem for a purchase, but would be a hassle to deal with regarding parts, or warranty work, etc.
This is the price I pay for living far from civilization I guess. I know lots of people buy through other "mail order" kayak stores. What's the typical scenerio for parts & warranty work?
Thanks much for any input or suggestions!
Tod
