Looking to possibly purchase kayak trailer to transport Revo and Outback, are there any big differences between the Malone Microsport and Continental Trailers. Continental seem a better price point. The Continental 4 Kayak Carrier at $750.00 and Malone at $1,169. Are the Malone Trailers worth the extra $$. Any one have either one of these trailers to comment?

The Malone has real tires and a stout frame. The wiring needs some help protecting from abrasion but easily done. Add bearing buddies, purchase extra wheel hub and your good to go. Used all over the northwest on marginal roads with no problems except funky trailer tongue which the newest have replaced with improved tongue jack with wheel.

Might want to check Magneta trailers. Have one and really like it. Very sturdy, 2" galvanized frame, freeway rated tires, grease fittings on hubs and LED lights. They are located in Hull, Iowa. Can be adapted for two to four kayaks if you purchase others in the future. Great customer service. About the same price as the Malone trailers.

I looked at the Molone, the Portage Pal, and the Yakima kayak trailers and priced them out fully. The Portage Pal was the least expensive but has a fixed tongue length which took it off my list.

With the Malone I priced out the Microsport MPG461U which includes cross bars, saddles, and a spare tire with the additional $159 for the collapsible tongue, $29 for the 78" bars, and $149 for shipping. With the Microsport 460XT I priced it with the cost for the trailer with additional $29 for the 78" bars, $159 for a spare tire, $227 for Yakima saddles, and $149 for shipping. The MPG461U came out at $2,036 for a trailer that was ready to load on kayaks and go.

I found the Yakima Rack and Roll trailer with the 78" bars for $2,069 and added in the cost for the spare tire and saddles and the as the dealer provided free shipping the total cost was $2,466.

I went with the Yakima as it has a better suspension for lightweight kayaks, weighs 70 lbs. less so is easier to move around, and the tongue and wheels are quickly removed so it can be stored in very little space when not in use. I paid the additional $400 to have the lighter weight, better ride, and ease of storing it in my garage.

For a bare bones trailer for a single kayak the Portage Pal at $831 is the best deal I could find. I wanted a trailer that could have the kayaks sitting upright and ready to launch or retrieve from the water without resorting to a separate trolley but others may be OK with flipping and loading and carting the boats to the water.
