The PA17 was outfitted with a skeg. Do the 2015 PA12 and 14 also have skegs?

Yes...both the 2015 PA 12 and 14 have the retractable skegs.

Awesome! I will likely upgrade to a 2015 from my 2013 as the tracking, or lack there of drives me nuts.

Where are the skegs? I don't see them in the new top view photo on the website.

It is retractable - underneath the kayak...

Wow. that's a big plus. My larger square rudder is arriving today.. cheaper to upgrade than get a new kayak. :)

I can attest the larger rudder works very well on my PA-14......and always remember, that regardless of the rudder, use short quick strokes to get the PA moving so it answers the rudder position.
This tip works for/on all Hobie Mirage Dive kayaks.

Good point. It also means more time is spent "pedaling" in the power zone of the stroke for the fins so you get better speed over any distance.

Has anybody seen one of these yet? The Hobie site does not show a skeg and I don't recall seeing it mentioned in the features or specifications for the PA-14. I asked my dealer about it, and he referred only to a new "tracking keel", but did not think it was a true retractable skeg. So, anybody know for sure what is on the 2015 PA-14? I am wrestling with doing a 2014 vs full 2015 upgrade.

Here's a pic from Hobie's Facebook page.

This skeg will improve tracking considerably compared to just a large rudder upgrade.

Jim_MI, go with the 2015 model.

So did the new 2015 PA's require a new mold to accommodate the new skeg? If not, is the new skeg retrofittable on a 2014 model?

My Dealer in San Diego had the PA 17 and I checked out the skeg. No way this will be an add on for prior year boats. There is a recessed area for the skeg when it is retracted. The PA 17 is a Beast!

this may be the case for the 17T, but I doubt they made a new mold for the PA12 and 14. Guess we will have to see when the new PA 12/14 come out.
