I have had two masts drop in the last two years. The first from old rigging on a used boat, the second possibly from a bad roller swage fitting on 1 yr old rigging. I am considering using Norseman fittings like on my 40' schooner for the forestays and shrouds. Has anyone experimented with these? Do they make them small enough? I also wonder if there might be compatability issues with the fittings versus the usual wire thimbles?

Not sure of the dimensions but it seems like the nut would be too large for you to effectively use all of the adjuster. Make sense?

Will be fine at the mast tang.

Hobie's rigging is better than most. Double Nicro press fittings and such. You can tell true hobie cat rigging by the dot on the nicro press fittings. I have had a wire fail inside a roller swage fitting, but the boat was stored with the mast up in a marine environment and it was well over a year old (three years old). I now replace the wire set on my boat every year. It is cheap insurance. The fittings you speak of are slick, but work best on new wire. The weak link is still the wire, so it probably is less expensive to just buy completed wire sets every year. The Norseman fittings are used on offshore boats to allow wires that fail at sea to be "fixed".

I just read this again, where did you buy wires for a H-16 that had roller swaged ends? These were not stock. The Hobie Cat wires are made better than what you had. Buy stock Hobie Cat made wires. Look for the little bumps on the Nicro press sleeves. You can't go wrong.

Hobie rigging is well worth the little extra money, should last 2 years w/o any problem, if you have mast up storage then shorten that to 1 year(cheep price for mast up storage) Your dealer should stock a good range of h16 stuff so give them a call and you'll be good to go for 2 years
