Hello!

My 20 year old daughter is currently in Austin Texas for 8 weeks. She is keen to meet up with other Hobie 16 sailors. She would love to go for a sail however couldn't fit her kit in her baggage so is happy enough to watch a race or 2. She is also happy to travel around Texas. She has access to a car which makes it easier for her although scarier for me because she is driving on the wrong side of the road! She has sailed many Nationals, States and 2 world championships. Look forward to your responses. Katrina

Unfortunately, there's almost no one-design Hobie 16 racing in that part of Texas.

She'll have much better luck heading to the Dallas area (3 hour drive) or the Houston / Galveston area (about a 4 hour drive, depending on traffic).

Thank you very much for your advice. Do you have the name of the sailing clubs in Houston and Dallas that would be best for her to reach out to?

Turns out there is a local catamaran group in Austin - http://www.austincats.net/ - they're more of an open cat fleet (even though they still call themselves "Division 6" and Fleet 128 (the old Hobie fleet number))

If she is staying for a bit longer than 8 weeks, and is willing to sail on a crappy Hobie, she can come down to Port Aransas, I'll be living there mid April-onward.
