Hi all-
I am starting to research a winter (December/January) getaway plan, bringing my TI to San Diego for a month or two. I have spent only a small amount of time down there so am looking for any local advice that anyone wants to share. We would likely rent a VRBO house or try an extended stay with an RV.

Looks like there are multiple sailing options, including Mission Bay and San Diego Bay. Is one better than another in terms of TI launch and sailing conditions? If we decided to do the RV route, it looks like
the Chula Vista RV resort might be a good option with easy access to San Diego Bay, but perhaps there are others that I have missed.

I could bring my TI on my trailer or car top. I would prefer the trailer unless it proves to be a hassle at most launch areas. I would hope that we could try a number of different spots while we are down there.

Thanks!

Via RV, you could move between a few spots.

Mission Bay is by far a more beautiful area to sail and easier access to the Ocean. Lots of area to sail. More protected. Camping is at Campland By The Bay. http://www.campland.com/ Easy trailer launching and free parking at a bunch of spots around the bay.

South San Diego Bay is very industrial on the eastern shore north of the Chula Vista Marina. Lots of ship yards. Tons of open water though. Sailing up into the bay is nice though and around down town under the Coronado bridge.

I would spend my time in Mission Bay if I had the choice. Lots more to do in the area too.
