We sometimes car top our TI when we are traveling and pulling our camper (because the camper takes up the hitch), previous to getting the TI we car topped an Oasis and a Revolution 13. We put a lot of miles on traveling around the country. We only put the bare hulls on the roof, we took all the seats out, and removed everything we could. Now we also have a trailer for our TI so I tow the TI back and forth between our two places in Sarasota FL and Key West FL (about 350 miles) when we don't have our camper along. I found at highway speeds things like spray skirts, seats, life jackets, and sails (not in sail bags) get tore up pretty quickly on the highway. Plus the hot Florida sun on the boat is really hard on everything like the mesh pockets, and the seats. We ended up throwing the AMA's on top of the boat and strapping them down pretty much covering everything with the AMA's (sails, seats, anchor, etc), it stopped most of the wind damage and blocked some of the sun, plus we got a little better fuel economy. If I was going on a really long trip with a trailer, I think I would put a cover on the boat, also when parked at a motel it's hard to know whats under the cover, you just need to make sure the cover is thick enough material, tight enough and strapped down enough so it doesn't flutter in the wind.
