People used to also put leeches on themselves to cure illnesses. You don't see us doing that anymore, eh?

I have to agree, the Worrell 1000 on 16's was a damn fine feat. No spins, limited room to carry anything and yet they sailed day and night. I remember the year where half the fleet got destroyed off the NC coast as they were coming thru the "graveyard of the atlantic". I think Trey was too young to remember that event. Its a shame Mike screwed the race up and the interest isn't there to run the full 1000 miles.

I saw them do that on "Gray's Anatomy" not too long ago... Not that everything on that show is real, but it might still be a practice for certain things...

"Today, medicinal leeches are used as tools in tissue grafts and reattachment surgery. Not only do they secrete anitcoagulants to prevent blood clots and relieve pressure due to pooling blood. It appears that leech saliva has other therapeutic properties. Leech saliva helps reestablish blood flow to reattached body parts by means of a vasodilator, provides a numbing anesthetic, and lessens the risk of infection due to an antibiotic."

You really don't want to know the medicial uses of maggots.

In the episode I saw, they used it in a skin/blood pooling issue on a guys face. He made friends with the leeches that he used to cure his issues and released them in the wild.. sort of odd.. but

Your face is important, right?

The face is very important, I was thinking something like a finger or something. I would just take the new nick name of Nine fingers, but the face. The lady friend might not be happy if I didn't have it.

Actually, it is still done... Leeches are excellent for restoring blood flow to damaged tissues. But it is a fairly rare treatment.

p.s. OK, OK... I see several others already replied.

On an inland lake (other than Great) finding a stretch of STRAIGHT water 14 1/2 miles long is in itself almost a miracle.

Hey, we're buoy racers. For one day there we were all dreaming. It was a mini-Worrell...South Dakota style

I haven't done tip to tip on Lake Winnebago.. but for an inland non-great lake.. it's one of the biggest in the country..
