Lol...the bow was coming off the water. My wife saw that and wants some for hers.

The photo is of my son in his sport after the sail rudder was installed. He's had the turbo fins installed for quite some time now. Anyway, we could tell the difference with the turning ability with the larger rudder right away. His sport could turn on a dime.

My outback's turning ability was also improved. But where this rudder really shined was in windy conditions. The photo below was taken when the weather app on my iPhone said the winds were up to 15-16 mph. I didn't have my wind meter with me but it felt like it. Anyway, neither one of us had to make constant rudder corrections to compensate for the wind. The larger rudder improved both kayaks' ability to track in windy conditions.

Thanks. I'm very proud of my son and he probably gets tired of me taking photos. I didn't do a very good job of framing the one below but it shows that he can move through the water pretty fast. The second one was taken as we started out on our "night patrol." Sorry for interrupting the thread.

He's adorable and I predict he's going to be quite awesome as he gets older. I'm glad the rudder upgrades made as big of a difference for you as they did for me. Definitely money well spent!
PS. I don't mind sharing my thread with you. The Sport is highly underrated in my opinion. No one ever talks about it and that's sad.

Thanks. The reason that not too many people talk about the sport, in my estimation, is that they aren't purchased very often. Guys like me that are going to spend a lot of money on a boat for ourselves aren't going to get a small one when we can have something bigger and suited more for our size. Most parents aren't going to spend a lot of money on a kayak for their kid unless he or she is going to use it a lot. If it's their first purchase of a kayak this is especially true - since they won't know if their child will stick with the sport. I could be wrong but that's just my guess.

I'm 5'9" and 170 lbs. So, I don't know when I'll try my son's sport out. We may trade boats one day just to experiment. However, I don't think I'll like riding in the sport since I'm a lot bigger than my son.

BTW, you are correct; the sport is a great kayak. I wished I would have had something like that when I was a boy.

I keep teasing him that in a few years he is going to want a tandem kayak. He asked why. I told him that he'll want to take a pretty girl on the water with him. At almost 10, girls are alien life forms to be avoided at all costs. He bet me $100 that he won't want a tandem kayak or a girlfriend. It will be the easiest $100 I'll ever make.

Back to the thread: I found this video of a comparison between the turbo fins and the regular fins. The times that he posted are very interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DAQmfNSA7_4

I used a Sport offshore for a year, it had turbo fins and sailing rudder. I'm 5'8" and was 200lbs at the time, I loved it. The only reason I upgraded was because I started carrying more gear and I was exceeding the weight limit. Kraken Hunter, don't be afraid to try out your son's sport, adjust the pedals to full extension and give it a go!

You're right. I'll probably try it when he goes back to school. What I like about it is that he can turn so quickly with it since adding the sailing rudder.
